The European Parliament approved the EU budget for 2024, which, among other things, provides for an increase in financial assistance for Moldova.
This was announced by the chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the parliamentary committee on the EU-Moldova association, Siegfried Mureșan, who was the chief negotiator of the European Parliament on the budget for next year during discussions with the European Commission. He noted that the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has already signed the EU budget for 2024 in the form agreed upon by Siegfried Mureșan and adopted by the European Parliament. “This is a good budget for Romania and good for Europe, which brings additional funds in key areas: Erasmus+ scholarships, young farmers, research, the Eastern Neighborhood, including Moldova. This is a budget that we adopted on time, as we proposed, precisely in order to provide predictability next year to the beneficiaries of European funding from Romania and the European Union,” wrote Siegfried Mureșan. Previously, he noted that he proposed increasing allocations in the EU budget for Moldova, emphasizing that one of the important priorities of the budget is the security of the European Union, which largely depends on the security of the countries neighboring the EU. “That is why we must have enough funds in the EU budget to ensure that we can adequately manage contingencies both within the Union and on our borders. This is why we propose to increase allocations in the EU budget for Ukraine, Moldova and the rest of the EU's Eastern and Southern Neighborhood countries precisely in order to help reduce security risks at our borders.
