
Moldova: The volume of industrial production in January-September 2023 decreased by 5.4% from the same period in 2022.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this without giving data in value terms. According to the agency, at the same time, in September 2023, the volume of industrial production increased by 1.5%, compared to the same month of the previous year. As noted, the 1.5% increase in production in September 2023, compared to September 2022, was due to an increase in output in the extractive industry by 0.3% and the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning by 30.1%, which provided an increase in total industrial output by 2.2%. Meanwhile, the manufacturing industry recorded a 0.7% decline, mitigating the 0.7% decline in total industry output, respectively. Overall, in January-September 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, output in the extractive industry declined by 8.8% and in the processing industry by 7.3%. At enterprises producing electricity, heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning the output grew by 4.7%. According to statistics, in January-September 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, production in the following segments increased: pharmaceutical products and pharmaceuticals (+22.7%); metallurgical industry (+25.8%); computers, electronic and optical products (+5.1%); electrical equipment (+71.7%); machinery and equipment (3.4-fold growth). At the same time, there was a decrease in production at enterprises of food industry (-13.8%); beverages (-3.3%); textile products (-9.2%); clothing (-15.7%); paper and paper products (-13.7%); chemicals and chemical products (-34.3%); rubber and plastic products (11.2%); metal structures and products, except machinery, equipment and installations (-8.8%); automobiles, trailers and semi-trailers (-14.1%); furniture (-10.9%). In the section "tanning and finishing of leather; manufacture of suitcases, bags, saddlery; dressing and dyeing of fur" the decline amounted to 8.2%; in the section "processing of wood and manufacture of wood and cork products, except furniture; manufacture of products made of straw and other plant materials for weaving" - 0.4%; in the section repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment - 2.1%.
