FAO's (the Food and Agriculture Organization) emergency response program could be expanded, among other things, to support Moldovan farmers.
In the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, a meeting was held between the head of the department, Vladimir Bolea, and representatives of specialized agencies, funds and UN programs in Chisinau. They discussed the possibility of expanding coordinated UN assistance to support agricultural producers in Moldova, as well as problems related to the export of grain. Vladimir Bolea noted that the biggest problem for Moldovan farmers is the collapse in prices: the current price of grains and oilseeds does not cover the cost of production. The second problem is the growth of transport costs, so it is necessary to invest not only in the railway and naval infrastructure, but also in border crossing points in our country. According to the minister, one of the solutions could be the installation of scanners for heavy vehicles, an increase in the number of runways and parking lots near customs posts. During the meeting, UN representatives said they plan to raise additional funding and expand the Emergency Response Program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). // 23.08.2023 — InfoMarket.
