Prices for electricity supplied to end consumers of Moldova decreased by about 14% in the second quarter of 2023

The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) reported that this was the result of a decrease in regulated prices for electricity supply by universal and guaranteeing service providers in April this year. According to the energy regulator, the dynamics of purchase prices for electricity in the wholesale market is constantly decreasing against the background of dropping purchase prices for electricity in the regional markets, depreciation of the national currency against foreign currencies and increase in the supply of electricity from renewable sources. In the retail market, suppliers sell electricity to end consumers at market prices based on contracts concluded with end consumers and at regulated prices. In the second quarter of this year, 4 suppliers operated in the retail market, of which 2 - at contractual prices and 2 - at regulated prices. The main share of the retail market was occupied by universal service suppliers, providing end consumers with approximately 99.7% of electricity consumed. The lack of electricity procurement sources also determines the low degree of competition on the retail market, given the fact that about 65% of electricity supply costs are determined by the costs associated with electricity purchase. According to ANRE data, the share of non-domestic consumers in the consumption structure is increasing, amounting to 58% (175 GWh) in June, while the consumption of electricity by domestic consumers decreased, reaching 126 GWh. The decrease is due to the increase in the number of beneficiaries of the net metering mechanism, which allows end users to secure part of the generated electricity due to the use of renewable energy sources. // 22.08.2023 - InfoMarket.
