The state of emergency throughout Moldova has been extended for another 60 days, starting from August 3, 2023.
The corresponding resolution was adopted on Monday by the parliament at the proposal of the government in the context of the immediate threat to national security caused by the war in Ukraine. According to the Cabinet of Ministers, the risks for our country are high, including due to shelling in the immediate vicinity of the NATO border, in the area of Odessa and Reni, near the border of Moldova. Also, the suspension of the agreement on the export of grain through the Black Sea basin after Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal will negatively affect the country, as this will lead to an increase in the transit of grain through our country. The authorities also point out that Moldova is still subjected to hybrid warfare through the spread of false information, war-themed manipulations, etc. At the same time, the war in Ukraine may interfere with the supply of natural gas and electricity to Moldova. During the state of emergency, the Commission for Emergency Situations of Moldova issues binding and enforceable regulations for central and local public administration authorities, state institutions, economic agents and citizens located on the territory of Moldova. According to the resolution approved by the parliament, the state of emergency in Moldova will not affect the organization and conduct of local elections. A state of emergency throughout the country was declared by Parliament on February 24, 2022, at the proposal of the Government of Moldova, in order to ensure prompt decision-making and effective management of the risks and threats that may arise. Since then, it has been regularly renewed (4 times in 2022 and three times in 2023). The last time the state of emergency was extended at the end of May for another 60 days, starting from June 4, 2023. // 31.07.2023 – InfoMarket.
