The EU to provide Moldova with additional macro-financial assistance worth 145 million euros by the end of 2023, of which 100 million euros in a loan and 45 million euros in a grant.
The government approved a decision on the ratification of the relevant amendments to the agreement on a credit line between Moldova, the EU and the National Bank of Moldova, signed in Brussels on 22 June 2022. The financing will be provided in two equal tranches of 72.5 million euros each, where 50 million euros are loan funds and 22.5 million euros are grants. However, disbursement will be contingent on progress made in implementing the terms of the Addendum to the aforementioned agreement and reforms in the areas of energy, rule of law, improving the business climate and labor market reforms. The reforms will be implemented according to the policy matrix, which envisages 13 actions, of which 7 for the first tranche and 6 for the second tranche. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the current EU macro-financial assistance package for Moldova entered into force on July 18, 2022 and envisaged the provision of 150 million euros initially, including 120 million euros in soft loans and 30 million euros in grants. At the same time, the first tranche of 50 million euros was allocated to Moldova by the European Commission last August. On April 5, Moldova received a 10-million-euro grant from the European Commission within the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance, while another 40 million euros in the form of loans were allocated to Moldova in early May. At the same time, the European Commission decided to increase the total amount of the macro-financial assistance to Moldova from 150 million to 295 million euros. The additional EU macro-financial assistance is meant to back Moldova's economic stabilization and structural reform programme, complementing the resources provided within the IMF financial agreement. Of the total amount of 295 million euros, the EU will provide Moldova with up to 220 million euros in loans and up to 75 million euros in grants. //26.07.2023 – InfoMarket
