
Projects to strengthen energy security and promote renewable energy sources will continue in the country under the new EBRD Strategy for Moldova for 2023-2028.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said at a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renault-Basso that the EBRD continues to be a reliable partner for Moldova, especially thanks to the support programs for entrepreneurs, the consolidation of Moldova's energy independence, as well as to the extensive investments in infrastructure. He stressed that, with the EBRD's assistance, about one fourth of the country's railroad on the Bender-Basarabeasca-Giurgiulesti section is being rehabilitated, and two sections of the M3 express highway: Chisinau - Comrat - Giurgiulesti - border with Romania have been repaired. "I am glad that, thanks to the new country strategy for Moldova for 2023-2028, approved by the EBRD in February this year, our country will be able to continue the projects to strengthen energy security, promote renewable energy sources, reinforce the financial system and the national infrastructure," the Speaker said. The Igor Grosu informed the EBRD President of the government's efforts to return to economic growth this year by supporting entrepreneurs, digitalization and de-bureaucratization of the business environment, processes that in turn attract new investments to our country. "The current government is implementing an ambitious reform program, the culmination of which should be the rapprochement of our country with the European Union," Prime Minister said. Moldovan President Maia Sandu, at a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said that the EBRD is the biggest institutional investor in Moldova and that it has financed projects worth 500 million euros in Moldova in 2022. The sides discussed programs financed by the EBRD and the country's socio-economic development priorities. She noted that the EBRD ensures the financing of gas purchases from alternative sources, energy efficiency projects and supports the country's efforts to develop a legislative framework for the production of energy from renewable sources. Discussions also focused on projects to modernize public utilities such as central heating, waste management and electricity distribution, which directly affect the quality of citizens’ life.
