The implementation level of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement by Moldova exceeds the global indicator.

Simon Springett, UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova, stated this while speaking at the 8th meeting of the Committee on Trade Capacity and Standards, organized under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) last week in Geneva. In his video message to delegates, he congratulated Moldova on the progress made in simplifying trade procedures, increasing transparency and integrating best practices into trade rules and procedures. In particular, he noted that Moldova's level of compliance with the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement is higher than the global average and is also higher than that of some developing WTO members. According to the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, national reports of Moldova and Kyrgyzstan regarding trade facilitation were also presented at the annual event, which is aimed at evaluating the Committee's activities and studying the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the region. Moldova’s representative Diana Levcenco, expert of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, told about the national experience and problems faced by Moldova in the context of the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement. She also spoke about the activities of the National Committee for Trade Facilitation, whose functions are carried out by the Economic Council. It is a coordinating mechanism at the national level for trade facilitation with the active participation of the private sector, government agencies and development partners. Referring to the recommendations of UNECE experts on regional trade integration, Diana Levcenco noted that Moldova has signed free trade agreements with a number of countries, including the DCFTA - Moldova-EU agreement, as well as a free trade agreement with CIS countries, CEFTA, agreements signed between Moldova and Turkey, an agreement with Great Britain, as well as the EFTA. All of them can contribute to Moldova's economic integration and attraction of investments in the country. The expert noted that over the last years, Moldova has made important steps in promoting digitalization reforms, as well as in implementing the principles of circular economy in the country. She presented the most important achievements and measures, especially in terms of trade facilitation and environmental transition. // 06.07.2023 - InfoMarket
