Moldova is developing the National Program for the Development of the Agro-Food Industry and Rural Areas for 2023-2026.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry submitted for public consultations a draft concept of this program, which is aimed at implementing and achieving the goals enshrined in the National Strategy for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas until 2023 and the Strategy for Food Security until 2023. The project identifies 4 main program objectives: strengthening the capacity of the primary agricultural sector and promoting rational, sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices; food industry development and market diversification; support for sustainable socio-economic development of rural areas; transfer of EU legislation into the national one and its consistent implementation in the field of agriculture, rural development and food security. Thus, it is planned to provide support for the wine sector by replanting popular grape varieties, promote the development of the livestock industry and fish farming, support the use of digital technologies, create a favorable regulatory framework, modernize integrated information systems related to the agricultural sector, etc. It is worth noting that the agro-food sector reaches 22% of Moldova's GDP, more than 43% of exports, creates more than 21% of jobs for the economically active population and has a high level of interconnection with other sectors of the economy - banking, finance, transport, trade, etc. For rural areas, which cover 57.6% of the population and most of the country's territory, the agro-industrial complex plays a major role in terms of socio-economic development prospects, forms the main income of the population and is the main component of the rural economy.
