Moldovan government has approved the draft of the new Land Code.

According to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea, this document will regulate land relations and provide for a new classification of lands and the order of their use. At the same time, the new Land Code will retain some of the obligations and prohibitions from the old document, for example, it will still be prohibited for foreign individuals and foreign companies to acquire private ownership of land designated as agricultural or from the forest fund. Under the new rules, if the land is not maintained in proper phytosanitary condition, the local authority will initiate actions to hold the owner accountable. If the summons remains unanswered, the mayor's office may reserve the right to dispose of the land in question and order its lease in order to prevent adjacent lands from being infested with diseases, weeds and pests. Similarly, landowners will be required to take measures to prevent and mitigate the impact of soil degradation in accordance with agricultural practice soil protection measures. In addition, the new Land Code provides for the creation of an information system of the Land Cadastre, which will keep records of land by category and mode of use. // 28.06.2023 – InfoMarket
