The NAC will intensify the fight against systemic corruption, corruption in public procurement, construction, the energy sector, and management of external financing.

The relevant instructions to the National Anti-Corruption Center were given by the deputies of Parliament in a resolution adopted following the hearing of the report on the activities of the NAC for 2022. Having taken note of the report, the National Anti-Corruption Center, in its activities to prevent and combat corruption, was instructed to contribute to: the fight against systemic corruption; combating corruption in public procurement; fight against corruption in the field of construction; road repair programs in Moldova; the external finance management process; fight against corruption in the energy sector. In order to strengthen the institutional capacity of the NAC, the Government of Moldova was instructed to take the necessary actions to promote the regulations introduced by the National Anti-Corruption Center. At the same time, the parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order and the legal commission on issues of law, appointments and immunity, in the order of parliamentary control, were instructed to monitor the activities of the NAC. According to the Report on the activities of the NAC, announced in the Parliament, over the past year, NAC investigators uncovered 539 crimes, 401 of which were corruption. Herewith, 487 criminal cases were initiated in 2022. Of these, 234 were related to corruption offenses, and 105 were related to corruption offenses -abuse of power or illicit enrichment. Criminal cases were also initiated on the facts of fraud, theft of assets, money laundering, etc. In addition, last year the Agency for the Compensation of Criminally Obtained Property, which is a specialized autonomous unit under the NAC, applied arrests in the amount of 2 billion lei.// 12.05.2023 — InfoMarket.
