The European Parliament Commission on Budget approves 145 million euros increase in the package of macro-financial assistance for Moldova - up to 295 million euros.
This was reported on his social network page by the vice-president of the European People's Party group, the chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the Parliamentary Committee on the European Union - Moldova Association, Siegfried Muresan. He noted that 35 people in the Commission voted for his proposal, with no abstentions and 1 vote against. As a rapporteur for the opinion, Siegfried Muresan asked his colleagues in the Budget Commission to approve the decision on additional macro-financial assistance for Moldova in the form proposed by the European Commission and not to make any amendments. At the same time, the Budget Commission asked the European Parliament's international trade commission - the decisive commission for this legislative project - to do the same and vote for the European Commission's proposal without amendments. Siegfried Muresan noted that the International Trade Commission is scheduled to vote on the increase in macro-financial assistance for Moldova on April 27, and the final vote at the European Parliament plenary is likely to take place in May. "In this way, we guarantee that the money will get to where it is needed as quickly as possible," Siegfried Muresan wrote. He also noted that this week the European Parliament's plenary session is scheduled to consider a resolution he has prepared, which expresses support for Moldova's security and its accession to the European Union. As InfoMarket agency earlier reported, the new EU macro-financial assistance package for Moldova took effect on July 18, 2022 and provided for 150 million euros, including 120 million euros of soft loans and 30 million euros of grants. Thus the first 50 million euros tranche was allocated to Moldova by the European Commission last August. On April 5 this year Moldova received a grant of 10 million euros from the European Commission under the second tranche of macro-financial assistance, and another 40 million euros in loans will be disbursed in early May. At the same time, the European Commission earlier proposed to increase the current macro-financial assistance to Moldova by 145 million euros - from 150 million to 295 million euros. Of the additional aid of 145 million euros, it is planned that up to 45 million euros will be provided in grants and up to 100 million euros in loans on concessional terms of financing. The amount is to be disbursed in two additional installments, scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2023, subject to the fulfillment of agreed conditions. // 18.04.2023 - InfoMarket
