Parliament ratified the Agreement of the Republic of Moldova with the EU on road cargo transportation, which fully liberalizes these cargoes.

This document was signed in Lyon on June 29, 2022 and provided our country with more opportunities for the transit of Moldovan cargoes through the territory of EU countries. In particular, the agreement makes it possible to overcome the transport blockages encountered by road freight operators from Moldova after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. More precisely, the document allows the use of alternative transport routes for the delivery of Moldovan goods, in particular agricultural products, on the territory of EU countries. The agreement allows transporters of our country to move through the EU territory without special permissions for bilateral and transit transport and freely deliver cargo to European markets. Thus, Moldovan road transport operators are provided with permanent mobility, new opportunities and easier access to the European economic market. The agreement was concluded until March 31, 2023, with the possibility of extension. Then the parties agreed to extend the agreement till June 30, 2024. It is notable that before that Moldova's relations in the field of road transport with the majority of EU countries had been regulated by bilateral intergovernmental agreements that stipulated different conditions of road transportations. In particular, they stipulated that cargo transportation by road was carried out only on the basis of permits for road transportation. Quotas of permits were established during negotiations based on the principle of parity and they were largely insufficient for Moldovan road transport operators. It is worth mentioning that the provisions of the Moldova-EU agreement on road transport of goods have already been applied since the agreement was signed on June 29, 2022. According to Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Lilia Dabija, since then the export of goods from Moldova has been greatly reoriented towards the European Union market. // 13.04.2023 – InfoMarket
