
Moldova intends to join the EU natural gas purchase mechanisms, which will allow it to better manage the energy crisis.
And in the medium term, it will complete the energy connection project with Romania and increase the production of renewable energy from 3% to 30%. This was stated by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita at a meeting with members of the delegation of the Sejm of Poland, which included representatives of the Commission on Foreign Affairs and the Commission on European Union Affairs of the Polish Parliament. The main topics of the meeting were the security situation in the region, measures to overcome the energy crisis and the course of our country's European integration. The parties discussed the crises caused by the war in Ukraine, with Moldova and Poland becoming the states that received the largest number of Ukrainian refugees. The head of the Cabinet spoke about plans to consolidate the energy sector of our country and confirmed the need for Moldova to join the EU natural gas purchase mechanisms, which will better manage the energy crisis. Natalia Gavrilita also spoke about government projects for the development of the renewable energy sector, in this sense, the legal framework was adjusted and favorable conditions for investment in the sector were created. “If in October 2022 Moldova was 100% dependent on gas supplies from Russia, now this figure has dropped significantly. We have managed to build up reserves sufficient to meet the demand for natural gas this winter. Moldova in the medium term intends to complete the energy connection project with Romania and increase the production of renewable energy from 3% to 30%,” the Prime Minister said. She stressed the need to expand trade and investment relations with Poland, mentioning the resumption of negotiations on investments in agriculture, the modernization of the transport sector and the digitization of public services. In turn, Radosław Fogiel, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Seimas of Poland, congratulated the members of the Moldovan government on obtaining the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union and confirmed that Poland will fully support the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova. “We had a productive visit to Moldova, and we identified a number of areas for cooperation. We will also continue to support your country in overcoming the energy crisis, inflation - phenomena that are also present in Poland,” said the Polish MP. “We are well aware of the situation in which Moldova finds itself and the response of the international community should be assistance and solidarity.
