Timely adjustment of gas and electricity tariffs for final consumers in Moldova is a necessary measure - IMF.
This was stated by representatives of the Mission of the International Monetary Fund at a meeting with the leadership of the National Agency for Energy Regulation. The IMF mission headed by Ruben Atoyan is on a visit to our country to discuss the progress of the Moldovan authorities in realizing the goals set out in the Memorandum on Economic and Financial Policy. As noted in the message of the energy regulator, in the context of the current energy crisis, discussions have focused more on the recent evolution of electricity and natural gas prices and the impact of their increase on Moldovan consumers. The IMF representatives were interested in the solutions found and the measures taken by the authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the country after the suspension of supplies from Ukraine and the refusal of the Moldavskaya GRES to renew the contract for the supply of electricity to the right-bank Moldova and the complete cessation of its supply from November 1. The parties also discussed how NAER applied mechanisms for adjusting tariffs for natural gas and electricity in the face of a sharp rise in prices in the region and instability of supply sources. IMF representatives noted that the timely adjustment of tariffs is a necessary measure to ensure sufficient liquidity so that market operators can operate in a normal mode, maintaining the stability of energy supplies to end consumers. IMF representatives highly appreciated the willingness of NAER specialists to provide clear and detailed information and expressed hope that Moldova will cope with the emergency problems in the energy sector.// 03.11.2022 — InfoMarket.
