
New payment projects will be introduced in Moldova.
The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) says the news was voiced at a meeting of the National Payment Council it convened to discuss cooperation and innovation in the field of payment services and payment systems. Representatives of national and foreign authorities, banks and non-bank payment service providers and of the higher educational institutions of Moldova participated in the meeting. At the opening of the meeting, Vice President of the National Bank Arcadie Albul stressed that there is an evolution, not a revolution, in the field of payments. "We want to innovate consciously and in a controlled way together with the market. ... It may bring risks and failures, but it is a natural process of evolution, and the National Bank is ready to work side by side with the market to create conditions for the development of payment fintech and be a catalyst between all participants," said the NBM Vice President. The meeting discussed the best international practices in the development of the payment area and aspects related to the implementation of the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2); development of various IT solutions in line with PSD2 requirements; development of innovative payment methods; diversification of digital payment instruments, etc. Later, two working groups under the aegis of the National Payment Council will be created to develop new projects in the field of payments. Thus, the experts will discuss relevant topics; formulate recommendations and proposals for joint implementation in order to meet the challenges faced by participants in the payment services market. The National Payment Council is conceived as a high-level professional consultative forum between various public and private institutions, providers of payment services and the academic environment to ensure efficient and stable operation of the payment system in Moldova. // 01.08.2022 - InfoMarket
