Many local roads of Moldova are being repaired thanks to this year's doubling of transfers to mayoralties from the state budget.

The Cabinet reported this, recalling that the government this year increased allocations to local budgets from the collection of tax for the use of roads. Thus, if until last year localities have received 50% of revenues, since 2022, all collected sums will go to the budgets of municipalities. The only condition imposed on local governments is to use this money exclusively for roads and spend it in the current year. This change has prompted mayoralties to begin repairing major arteries, which they could not previously afford. According to the Ministry of Finance, the amount planned for this year, which should go to local administrations across the country from the full distribution of the proceeds from the road use tax, is 868 million lei. It is also allowed to combine this funding with other funds. "We are encouraged to use these resources as efficiently as possible. When there are other projects related to road infrastructure that add value to the development of localities and other actors need to be involved, we welcome this concentration of resources on one project," said Minister of Finance Dumitru Budianschi. // 27.07.2022 - InfoMarket.
