It should be noted that the historical maximum of the total national debt of Moldova makes 79 billion 711.7 million lei, which was registered at the end of February 2022. According to the Ministry of Finance of Moldova, the growth of total national debt in January-May 2022 was due to an increase in external national debt expressed in MDL, while the internal national debt decreased. In particular, the domestic public debt decreased by 1 billion 312.2 million lei (-3.9%) - from 33 billion 281.4 million lei (at the end of December 2021) to 31 billion 969.2 million lei (at the end of May 2022). At the same time, the external public debt in terms of lei increased during the same period by 2 billion 741.4 million lei (+6.2%) - from 44 billion 471.3 million to 47 billion 212.7 million lei. At the same time, the share of internal national debt in the total national debt of Moldova at the end of May 2022 amounted to 40.4% (against 41.5% a month earlier), while the share of external national debt - 59.6% (58.5% a month earlier). In general, the share of total national debt in GDP at the end of May 2022 was estimated at 29% against 32.1% at the end of 2021. At the same time, according to preliminary data, GDP in 2021 was 241.87 billion lei, and by the end of 2022, it is projected at 273.5 billion lei. The Ministry of Finance noted that at the end of May 2022, the share of national debt due within one year was 25.7% of the total, while the Program "National Debt Management in the Medium Term (2022-2024)" provides for parameters of 20-30%. The proportion of internal national debt in the total national debt was 40.4% (previously approved parameters: 35-50%), the specific weight of external national debt in a particular currency in the total volume of external debt at the end of May 2022 was 33.4% (approved parameters: 20-45%). The specific weight of the national debt with a variable interest rate in the total volume of the national debt amounted to 45.2% at the end of May 2022 (approved parameters: 25-45%). As InfoMarket agency earlier reported, the total national debt of Moldova increased by 9 billion 932 million lei (+14.6%) in 2021, amounting to 77 billion 752.7 million lei. At the same time, the internal national debt in 2021 increased by 4 billion 045.8 million lei (+13.8%) - from 29 billion 235.6 million lei (at the end of December 2020) to 33 billion 281.4 million lei (at the end of December 2021).
