Moldavskaya GRES will supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester for at least another month - until the end of May, but its price will increase from $53.5 to $59.5 per MWh.

This was stated by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita at a press conference on Friday, noting that such a temporary solution was found after the previously initiated tender for the purchase of electricity ended without results and was canceled, and Energocom was instructed to conduct direct negotiations with suppliers , as a result of which the best offer was submitted by Moldavskaya GRES, which agreed to supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester for another month at a price of $59.5 per MWh instead of the previous $53.5. As Natalia Gavrilita explained, all proposals received for the tender announced by Energocom were expensive, and the lowest price was $96.5 per MW/h. “This would mean a significant increase in tariffs and an increase in prices for most goods, since the electricity tariff is an important component in the cost of production,” the prime minister said. According to her, under these conditions, the Commission for Emergency Situations instructed Energocom to initiate direct negotiations with suppliers to find a solution that provides for the continuation of electricity supplies at comparable prices. As a result, we managed to find a temporary solution with the Moldavskaya GRES. During this time, it is planned to find the most affordable solution for the supply of electricity in terms of price. Natalia Gavrilita explained that the contract with Moldavskaya GRES will be signed for a month, as she does not want to sign a contract for a longer period, like other companies, citing the uncertainty due to the war in Ukraine, market volatility, etc. The head of government noted that, according to preliminary data from NAER, an increase in the purchase price of electricity will not lead to an increase in tariffs for end consumers. Natalia Gavrilita said that during the meeting, the Commission for Emergency Situations allowed the Environmental Protection Agency, in derogation from the current legislation (the Law on Environmental Protection, the Law on Air Protection and annexes to the Law on the Regulation on Permitting Business Activities), to issue to the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant from Rybnita an environmental permit valid until 31 May. As the prime minister clarified, in this way, the authorities were able to eventually get the opportunity to purchase electricity at a favorable price for a month without the need to increase the tariff for end consumers, which is very important in the current difficult conditions, and government actions will help prevent further price increases and improve the standard of living of the population, ensure predictability. // 29.04.2022 — InfoMarket
