Moldova will receive 45.65 million euros from the World Bank and Austria for projects to develop water supply and sewerage systems in the country.
In particular, the World Bank, through the International Development Association, will provide it with a loan of 44.1 million euros for these purposes, and the Austrian Development Agency - a grant of 1.55 million euros. This is stipulated by the corresponding agreement on financing and grant, which was signed in Washington by the Minister of Finance of Moldova, Dumitru Budianschi, and the World Bank Resident Representative in Moldova, Inguna Dobraja. The money is earmarked for the Moldova Water Supply and Sanitation Security Project, which will provide more than 66,000 people in several parts of the country with access to better water supply and sanitation services. The project will expand access to safely managed water supply and sanitation services in selected rural areas and cities; strengthening institutional capacity at the national and local levels to improve the provision of water supply and sanitation services, etc. The project is planned to be implemented before the beginning of 2027, while part of the funds will be directed to improve sanitary and hygienic conditions in 100 schools and 25 health care facilities in rural areas. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, the Water Supply and Sanitation Safety in Moldova project will improve the water supply and sewerage infrastructure in many settlements, including Comrat and Soroca. Thanks to this project, tens of thousands of households in Riscani, Cahul and Vulcanesti districts will have access to high-quality water. The wastewater infrastructure in the municipalities of Soroca and Comrat will also be expanded and improved through the construction of modern treatment facilities. Wastewater will not flow into rivers and lakes, and residents of 2 cities and nearby villages will live in a cleaner and healthier environment. The implementation of the mentioned project will contribute to the implementation of the Water Supply and Sanitation Strategy for 2014-2030, through which the Moldovan authorities aim to provide 80% of urban and 75% of rural areas with water supply and sanitation infrastructure by 2024. //22.04.2022 — InfoMarket.
