Moldova is asking the EU to open its markets in order to redirect exports and imports, which before the war accounted for Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
As Moldovan President Maia Sandu noted, Moldova supplies more than 2/3 of its exports to the EU, but it is necessary to find markets for producers who supplied their products to Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. Before the war, these three countries accounted for 15% of Moldovan exports, and supplier companies need support. So far, support has been shown at the level of some European institutions, as well as on some issues, some EU countries have decided on support on an individual basis, for example, on the issue of transport permits. However, Moldova is counting on a joint decision of all EU countries regarding the support of Moldovan exports. At the same time, according to Sandu, expanding exports to the West, it is necessary to think about how to cover imports from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, which accounted for about 26% of Moldovan imports. “We understand that imports will be carried out from other countries, these are longer distances, logistics, and therefore an increase in prices for imported goods,” Sandu said, stressing that the problem of inflation is already acute.// 04.04.2022 — InfoMarket
