The EU Council approved 150 million euros macro-financial assistance to Moldova in soft loans and grants.

As noted in the European Union Council’s statement, this assistance will help strengthen Moldova's resilience in the current geopolitical context and cover the country's balance of payments needs, identified in the IMF program. Thus, economic stabilization and the reform program in Moldova will be supported. As noted, the EU assistance will help Moldova cover some of its external financing needs in 2022-2024, which are estimated at $480 million in the context of the new IMF program for 2021-2025. The EU macro-financial assistance to Moldova is expected to be disbursed in three tranches between 2022 and 2024. Of the total amount, up to 120 million euros will be provided as medium- and long-term loans at favorable financing terms and up to 30 million euros in grants. The decision of the EU Council to grant Moldova 150 million euros in macro-financial assistance in soft loans and grants was taken today and will enter into force on the third day after being published in the EU Official Journal. // 04.04.2022 - InfoMarket
