Moldovan authorities plan to introduce again emergency state in the energy sector.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita stated this at a briefing on Wednesday. She noted that the government will ask the parliament to introduce emergency state in the energy sector if the corresponding proposal of the Prime Minister is approved today by the Commission for Emergency Situations. “In such a scenario, tomorrow we will turn to parliament with a corresponding request, and if the parliament supports such a decision, then the Commission for Emergency Situations will also meet tomorrow and take a series of measures to avoid the risk of cutting off gas supplies to Moldovan consumers,” the head of government noted. According to her, such measures could be: granting Moldovagaz a deferral of VAT payments to the budget, as well as early payment of compensations by the government for January and February as part of the budget support for household consumers. Natalia Gavrilita explained that all this time the government has been monitoring the situation on the gas market on a daily basis while taking all measures, including through the Commission for Emergency Situations and the Moldovagaz Supervisory Board, to find commercial solutions, and thus Moldovagaz could fulfill its obligations to consumers. “The government will intervene and take emergency measures only after commercial solutions have been exhausted in order to ensure the security of natural gas supplies to Moldova and the energy security of the country,” Prime Minister said. She recalled that the government decided to increase assistance to citizens in this difficult period, especially the poor, by increasing the amount of compensation for heat and simplifying the procedures for accessing assistance during the cold season. // 19.01.2022- InfoMarket.
