The joint meeting of the governments of Moldova and Romania will take place in January 2022.

Prime Ministers of Moldova and Romania Natalia Gavrilita and Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca agreed on this at a meeting on Thursday in Bucuresti. As expected, the joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the two countries will facilitate the implementation of projects included in the priorities of the bilateral agenda. During the briefing following the meeting, Romanian Prime Minister said that plans for cooperation and interaction in many sectors were discussed at the meeting - energy, road infrastructure, investments, justice, anti-corruption, education, culture, science, etc., and Natalia Gavrilita’s visit in Bucharest is a continuation of the previously made efforts of the parties to intensify cooperation, both at the level of Prime Ministers and at the level of the governments of Moldova and Romania. Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca noted that Romania is the main trading partner of Moldova, stressing the importance of improving the business environment in Moldova for investors from Romania and other countries. He also announced his intention to conclude in the near future a new intergovernmental agreement on the provision of gratuitous aid by Romania to Moldova in order to extend a similar document, concluded in 2010, which expired in March 2021. Among the priorities highlighted by the Romanian Prime Minister are: cooperation in the energy sector and the unification of the energy systems of the two countries, the implementation of infrastructure projects and the construction of roads that will unite transport links with Romania, including the construction of the road bridge in Ungheni and the strengthening of the Galati-Giurgiulesti road bridge. Another issue is the reduction of roaming tariffs, and negotiations are planned on this issue at the level of regulatory bodies and mobile operators of the two countries in order to find an optimal solution. In turn, Natalia Gavrilita said that Moldova is counting on Romania's support in implementing the government's ambitious program to transform Moldova into a modern European state, in which laws and the rule of law operate. One of the main priorities is the interconnection of the energy systems of Moldova and Romania until 2024 and ensuring Moldova’s energy security. According to her, plans regarding the road infrastructure, as well as the improvement of the railway communication, were discussed. In this context, she positively assessed the resumption of the movement of Moldovan trains on the Chisinau-Iasi and Chisinau-Bucuresti route, especially in the context of the fact that 2021 has been declared the “year of the railroad” in the EU. // 09.12.2021 - InfoMarket
