
The IMF kept its forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2021 at 4.5%, but raised its forecast for this indicator for 2022 from 4% to 5.2%.
According to IMF experts, in 2026 the Moldovan economy is expected to grow by 5%. This follows from the new October World Economic Outlook (WEO). According to the forecasts of IMF experts, the average annual inflation in Moldova in 2021 will be 3% (the previous forecast is preserved), in 2022 - 5.8% (up 0.8 percentage points). At the same time, average annual inflation in 2026 is projected at 5%. At the same time, inflation at the end of 2021 is expected at 4.9%, and at the end of 2022 - 5.5%. Moldova's current account deficit is expected to increase to 8.5% of GDP in 2021 from 6.7% in 2020, while in 2022 this indicator is expected to grow further to 9.6% of GDP, with a decline in 2026 to 7.6% of GDP. It should be noted that earlier the World Bank improved the forecast for the growth of the Moldovan economy for the next 3 years, in particular, it raised the forecast for GDP growth in Moldova for 2021 by 3 percentage points - from 3.8% to 6.8%, in 2022 by 0.2 percentage points - from 3.7% to 3.9%, and in 2023 - by 0.6 percentage points - from 3.8% to 4.4%. The EBRD raised its forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2021 from 3.5% to 4.5%, and in 2022 it expects the country's economy to grow by 4%. Moldova's GDP in the first half of 2021 reached 104.2 billion lei in nominal terms, up 11.7% to the same period in 2020. Moldova's budget for 2021 was drawn up taking into account the projected 4.7% economic growth for this year. Subsequently, macroeconomic forecasts were revised, and the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure announced that real GDP growth in Moldova in 2021 will be 6%.
