In Moldova, workers will benefit from a range of support measures during a public health emergency.

This is provided for by the relevant amendments to the Labor Code, which the parliament approved in the first reading. The bill stipulates that if the educational process takes place online, after the competent authorities have ordered special measures to ensure the safety, protection of life and health of the population, with the consent of the employer, one of the parents or guardian will be given days off to look after the children. During this period, the employee will receive compensation in the amount of at least 50% of the basic salary. The provisions apply to parents of children under 12 and children with disabilities who attend educational institutions. In addition, to stimulate the Covid-19 vaccination process, employees will be given two days off with the same average salary so that they can be vaccinated against the coronavirus. In this regard, the government will establish compensation from the state budget for employers who provide this opportunity for workers. The approved bill also provides for other benefits and opportunities for working people. For example, if technical unemployment is declared as a result of restrictions imposed by a public health emergency, workers will receive compensation, in part or in full, from the state budget. It should be noted that the duration of technical unemployment cannot exceed 4 months a year. The deputies also approved the introduction of an article into the Labor Code that would allow the employer to establish a reduced working regime for at least a quarter of the total number of employees. A reduced work schedule can be established for up to 3 months in a row, but not more than 5 months a year. Workers with a reduced work schedule will be paid wages in accordance with the actual time provided, and the difference will be paid partly from the state budget. For the implementation of these social measures, the authors of the project have foreseen expenditures of 285 million lei for the last quarter of this year. However, according to the estimates of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Finance, these expenses will be fulfilled by 30%.// 04.10.2021 — InfoMarket
