The European Union is ready to discuss new programs of budgetary support for some key reforms of the new government of Moldova.
This was discussed during the meeting that the Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilita held with a delegation of high-ranking European officials led by Deputy Director General of the European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Katarina Mathernova and Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE European External Action Service by Michael Siebert. Discussions focused on the implementation of the Economic Recovery Plan for Moldova, launched in June 2021.The plan is based on the assistance provided by the European Union through various bilateral and regional instruments (Eastern Partnership), and aims to mobilize up to 600 million euros over 3 years in the form of grants, loans, guarantees, macro-financial assistance. In this context, it was announced that Moldova will be allocated more than 36 million euros in grants to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, namely, for economic recovery and police reform. Katarina Mathernova noted that she came to Chisinau in June to present the Economic Recovery Plan for Moldova worth 600 million euros. “Much has happened since then, and I want to congratulate you on the victory of the reformist forces. The recovery plan is already being implemented with the decision to provide this first tranche,” she said. In turn, Natalia Gavrilita noted that the Economic Recovery Plan and 5 flagship initiatives for Moldova within the framework of the Eastern Partnership will directly contribute to the reform and consolidation of institutions, stimulate long-term socio-economic development, bring direct benefits to citizens and open up new economic opportunities through promoting the green agenda and digitization. She stressed that small and medium-sized enterprises have been hit hard by the crisis, and promoting and diversifying access to finance and reducing guarantee requirements will be essential to support economic agents. “We are grateful to the EU partners who will launch two programs to support 50 thousand independent Moldovan small and medium-sized enterprises so that they adapt to the new conditions,” said Natalia Gavrilita. According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the European partners have also shown openness to discuss new programs of budgetary support for some key reforms of the new government. // 15.09.2021 – InfoMarket
