
The minimum old-age pension in Moldova from October 1 will be 2 thousand lei, the beneficiaries of this increase will be about 308 thousand pensioners.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilita during a press conference on Monday, saying that the government will present the relevant bill for approval by the Parliament. According to her, in Moldova, about 70% of beneficiaries of old-age pensions receive a pension below the minimum subsistence level in the country. At present, the minimum pension in the country averages about 1188 lei. After the increase, the size of the old-age pension of persons with full work experience (about 183 thousand beneficiaries), whose pension did not reach 2 thousand lei, will increase by an average of 366 lei. At the same time, for 125 thousand pensioners with part-time work experience, the minimum pension will be increased by an average of 398 lei. Another 84 thousand beneficiaries of social benefits, the amount of which is determined based on the average old-age pension, will increase the amount of payments by about 450 lei. Thus, the minimum amount of the disability benefit will increase from October 1 to 1,000 lei in case of average disability; up to 1.4 thousand lei - in the case of evident disability and up to 1.5 thousand lei - in the case of severe disability. In addition, from October 1, 2021, all pensioners will undergo a planned indexation of pensions by 3.86%, in accordance with the inflation rate for the first half of this year. To index benefits and pensions by 3.86% from the state budget for 2021, about 188.2 million lei will be required, and to increase the size of the minimum old-age pension, 512.7 million lei will be required. Herewith, 2.1 billion lei will be required to ensure a new level of the minimum old-age pension and social benefits in 2022.
