Moldova is increasing its exports of fruits, vegetable oils, wine and other products to the European Union thanks to the free trade regime with the EU.
This is stated in a newsletter issued as part of the information campaign of the European Investment Bank "Together for a Better Future". As noted, the pandemic has greatly affected the global economy, as well as trade relations between states. However, even during the sanitary crisis, Moldova managed to achieve some progress in the export of certain categories of agri-food products to the EU countries. So, in 2020, Moldova increased exports of fruits, vegetable oils, wine, as well as canned fruits and vegetables and nuts to the EU. In particular, Moldovan exports of vegetable oils to the EU grew by 34.9% over the year - from 63 million euros in 2019 to 85 million in 2020. Last year, compared to 2019, exports of wine, vermouth, cider and vinegar increased by 16.3% to 50 million euros, while exports of fresh and dried fruit increased by 15.4% to 30 million euros. Export of fruit juices also increased slightly by 2.3% to 44 million euros. While the export of Moldovan vegetables to the EU in 2020 decreased by 66.7% - to 2 million euros, sales of Moldovan canned products from vegetables, fruits or nuts on the European market increased by 54.5% - to 17 million euros. As noted in the EIB materials, Moldovan exports to the European Union are carried out on preferential terms, thanks to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Zone, which is part of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement and involves the gradual liberalization of trade in goods and services. The EU is the main trading partner and largest investor in Moldova. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, for 6 months in 2021, the export of Moldovan goods to the EU countries increased by 15.7% - to $858.8 million, and the EU accounted for 64.5% of the total Moldovan exports for the specified period. Easier access to a market of more than 500 million consumers in the European Union has prompted many Moldovan producers to increase their exports to the European market. // 17.08.2021 - InfoMarket
