
Moldovan authorities to implement many large infrastructure and regional development projects in 2021-2025, including the construction of a European railway to Chisinau, construction of 2 new bridges over the Prut and 1 bridge over the Dniester.
This is stated in the new government’s program, announced by the candidate for the post of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita. The document notes the intention to increase the pace of implementation of infrastructure projects and improve the quality of public works so that the population, as well as the business environment, benefit from quality roads, sewerage and water pipelines, gas, transport and energy at good prices, as well as Internet access for everyone. The development of infrastructure in villages is called a separate priority in the new Cabinet and they promise to create a Fund totaling 2 billion lei per year for local projects to help mayoralties develop local infrastructure. In general, the government plans to implement many large infrastructure and regional development projects in 2021-2025 and promises to build or renovate 3,000 km of centralized water supply and sewerage networks; build 2 modern district hospitals - in Cahul and Balti; to restore and repair all national roads that are in poor and very poor condition - 2,800 km; rehabilitate and renovate 3,000 km of rural roads and streets; to install modern toilets and sanitary blocks in all schools and kindergartens; install or repair modern lighting systems on 10,000 km of streets and public roads; refurbish at least 500 kindergartens and expand crèche services. In addition, the new Cabinet plans to build a European railway to Chisinau; build 2 bridges across the Prut (Ungheni and Leova) and 1 bridge across the Dniester (Yampil-Cosauti); to repair the Giurgiulesti-Galati bridge; complete the construction of a back-to-back power plant in Vulcanesti and the Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage transmission line; ensure the functionality of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline; build or renovate 9 treatment facilities in the cities of Edinet, Soroca, Orhei, Ungheni, Hincesti, Comrat, Straseni, Ceadir-Lunga and Cahul; to carry out heat rehabilitation and repair of facades in 20% of residential buildings in the country; to promote the development of modern transport in the main cities of the country - Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, Soroca, Orhei, Edinets; build modern landfills for storing waste in all regions of the country, introduce waste sorting and recycling.
