There has been approved a list of domestically produced products, which should occupy 50% of the length of retail shelves in shops in Moldova.

The government at a meeting on Wednesday approved the list of food products from the short food chain. This list includes 132 names of products, grouped into 14 categories (seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits, canned vegetables and fruits, cereals, pasta, bakery and confectionery products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, frozen products, milk and dairy products, meat and sausage products, sheep meat and cheese, natural honey and honey products, other products). According to the Law on Internal Trade, food merchants, with the exception of those working in small-scale retail units, are required to purchase and display on the shelf food products originating from a short food chain for at least 50% of the shelf length in the case of food products from the same category, which includes food products included in the approved list. As noted by the acting Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju, these measures will not restrict consumer access to imported products, which will also be presented on store shelves. At the same time, merchants will be able to choose local suppliers, concluding contracts with them, with clearly stipulated rights and obligations of the parties. It is expected that providing domestic producers with access to store shelves will stimulate their income growth, increase their contributions to local and national budgets, stimulate the development of the SME marketing system, create conditions for healthy competition, and the priority will be the quality, safety and appearance of food products. // 14.07.2021 — InfoMarket
