
The Ministry of Agriculture asks to urgently allocate 246 million lei from the reserve fund to partially compensate for the losses of farmers due to rain and hail.
Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju said this at a briefing on Thursday. According to him, heavy rains with hail this year caused damage to 77 settlements in 23 regions of the country. At the same time, the most affected are: Singera, Floresti, Ungheni, Soroca, Stefan-Voda, Criuleni, Donduseni, Soldanesti, Rezina, Ialoveni, Telenesti, Orhei, Drochia and Cahul districts. The head of the industry department said that, according to available data, important segments of the infrastructure were affected there, as well as impressive areas of crops (more than 7 thousand hectares): 1640 hectares of corn, 1852 hectares of sunflower, 1073 hectares of wheat, 1088 hectares of barley, 1467 hectares of sugar beets, 51 hectares of rapeseed, 17 hectares of vegetables, 197 hectares of other crops, 367 hectares of vineyards, 2192 hectares of orchards. The total material damage caused to crops is more than 162 million lei, but its assessment is still ongoing. “It should be noted that in addition to this amount, only in Stefan Voda region on June 26, on an area of about 2 thousand hectares, there were documented losses, amounting to about 65 million lei. Emergency commissions continue counting the damage. And, according to preliminary estimates, the damage caused to agricultural producers by the disaster exceeds 227 million lei, ”said Ion Perju. He clarified that, according to weather forecasts, in the near future there will be torrential rains with strong wind and hail, and for this reason, it is necessary to ensure the functioning and implementation of 18 new anti-hail missile launch points - in addition to the existing 132, for which additional financial resources are needed. According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture in this regard asks the Ministry of Finance to allocate 12 million lei in order to purchase 2 thousand anti-hail missiles for the National Anti-Hail System.
