
Belarus is interested in implementing joint investment projects with Moldova in such sectors as transport and road infrastructure, agriculture and food industry.
This was stated by Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko during a meeting with Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Zinaida Greceanii, in which Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju and Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Agriculture and Food Industry MP Radu Mudreac also took part. The Belarusian Prime Minister noted that Moldova and Belarus should expand trade and economic cooperation, build up cooperation ties, and develop new joint ventures and projects in agriculture and industry and other areas. “I am glad that, despite all the difficulties, we have not lost trade ties, the potential that has been accumulated over the years. Bilateral trade data are encouraging. We are growing. There are all possibilities to increase the indicators,” the Prime Minister of Belarus noted. In his opinion, our countries need to go further along the path of building up cooperative ties, develop joint production. “We believe that the development of transport and road infrastructure is important for Moldova. In this regard, we have repeatedly sent proposals on the participation of the Belarusian side in road construction projects in Moldova,” he said. The Belarusian Prime Minister mentioned that agriculture is another important area of cooperation. “Moldova is a developed agrarian country. Belarus is among the European leaders in the development of the agri-industrial complex. Therefore, cooperation in the field of agriculture is, of course, important. We are ready to implement projects in Moldova to create high-tech dairy complexes based on Belarusian technologies,” Roman Golovchenko stressed. The Belarusian Prime Minister also noted that Minsk is interested in joint investment projects in the field of transport and road infrastructure, agriculture and the food industry, both at the interstate level and directly between economic agents. In turn, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii confirmed the readiness of the Moldovan side to boost cooperation with Belarus in various fields, noting that it is necessary to continue joint projects in agriculture, industry, and the humanitarian sphere. “Belarusian trolleybuses run along the streets of our capital, Belarusian tractors are operating in our fields. The citizens of Moldova highly appreciate this, and we want to continue developing this effective partnership,” said Zinaida Greceanîi. She also called for further implementation of joint projects in the humanitarian and social spheres, education and healthcare. According to Belarusian statistics, the trade turnover between Moldova and Belarus in January-February 2021 amounted to $33.8 million, up 23.5% compared to the same period in 2020. At the same time, Belarusian exports to Moldova increased by 41% - to $23.9 million. The main items of Belarusian exports to Moldova are: oil products, trolleybuses, tractors and truck tractors, medicines, fiberglass, plastic plates and films, unalloyed steel rods, eggs and dairy products. The bulk of Moldovan exports to Belarus are: natural grape wines, corn, spirits, carpets and floor coverings, canned vegetables, grapes. Three assembly plants have been set up in Moldova: Belkommunmash (Белкоммунмаш ) trolleybuses, garden and viticultural tractors of the Smorgon (Сморгонь) aggregate plant, tractors of small and medium capacity of the Bobruisk (Бобру́йск ) plant of tractor parts and aggregates. // 07.05.2021 – InfoMarket
