Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed a decree dissolving parliament and setting the date for early parliamentary elections - July 11.
The head of state announced this at a briefing on Wednesday evening. She noted that, thus, the way is open for citizens to elect a new parliament. The President expressed confidence that citizens will choose the right path to create a developed democratic state and put an end to the chaos in the country. “After the elections, the new parliament will approve a responsible government, we will get out of the crisis, we will put things in order in all state institutions,” the president stressed. According to her, the government should find and allocate the necessary financial resources for holding early parliamentary elections. As previously reported, on April 15, the Constitutional Court ascertained the existence of circumstances for the dissolution of parliament due to the impossibility of forming a new government. Today, on April 28, the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional the decision of the parliament on the introduction of a state of emergency in the country, which was contested by the opposition deputies. During the state of emergency in the country, it was impossible to dissolve the parliament and hold parliamentary elections. The recognition of the unconstitutional decision of the parliament on the introduction of the state of emergency in Moldova made it possible for President Maia Sandu to sign a decree on the dissolution of parliament and setting the date for early elections. // 28.04.2021 - InfoMarket
