Moldova introduces a ban on the export of wheat from state reserves until April 12.

This decision was approved by the Moldovan government on the recommendation of the Supreme Security Council and following discussions on this issue. According to the government press service, the restriction is aimed at ensuring food security in the country, given that in 2020 farmers were hit by the drought and the country's economy was hit by the pandemic. During the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Ion Perju said that in 2020 more than 600 thousand tons of wheat was harvested, which is more than half the harvest of 2019, but this volume is enough to ensure the food security of the country, which requires no more 350 thousand tons. At the same time, since July 1, 2020, the volume of wheat exports amounted to about 107 thousand tons. At the same time, at the moment, more than 318 thousand hectares of wheat and more than 45 thousand hectares of barley have been sown; the crops are in very good condition. According to the minister, there is no risk of shortage of food wheat. At the same time, the head of government noted that the issue of ensuring food security is not easy, and proposed to introduce a temporary ban on the export of wheat from mountain reserves. As a result, the government approved the decision to introduce such restrictions by April 12. // 31.03.2021 – InfoMarket
