Moldovan President Maia Sandu appealed to the Constitutional Court with a request to ascertain the existence of circumstances justifying the dissolution of the parliament.
She stated this at a briefing on Monday after the completion of consultations with parliamentary parties and groups on the situation in the country and the possible dissolution of parliament. The head of state said that, in her opinion, there are all legal grounds for the dissolution of parliament, since it did not use two attempts to approve the new government within 45 days from the moment of the nomination of the first candidate for the post of prime minister, and since the resignation of the previous cabinet has already passed 3 months. Maia Sandu noted that many deputies are trying to convince them that they care about citizens, but the decisions they make speak to the opposite, many of the approved laws and decisions are against citizens. “These deputies promote judges who have judged citizens unfairly and harmed the state, opposed the foreign aid programs the country needs so badly, defend corruption groups, do not seek solutions for the people, but solve their own problems,” the president said. According to her, in the last 3 months the prices for oil products have increased, but the Parliament is protected by the Competition Council, although it did not take measures to combat cartel collusion in the market. The prices for medicines have increased, money for the purchase of vaccines has not been provided for in the budget, and negotiations with vaccine manufacturers have not been held. “Nothing is being done for ordinary people, but corruption schemes flourish, including those related to the purchase of vaccines, the sale of wheat from the state reserve, illegal deforestation, the illegal use of quarries for the extraction of natural resources, laws were passed that blocked external aid. The list goes on and it is clear that this parliament works against citizens and cannot solve people's problems. Parliament had two opportunities to approve a new government, but in both cases, the deputies did not take advantage of this. Those who stole and weakened state institutions, brought the state to the brink of failure, are now asking for time. But there is no more time for their dirty games. People need a functional state, a responsible parliament that will establish a stable and competent government. People want deputies who save the country, not themselves, ”said Maia Sandu. In her opinion, early elections are a chance for citizens to choose deputies who will lead the country out of the crisis, get rid of corruption, and this is a decision that can save the country. The President stated that she had applied to the Constitutional Court with a request to ascertain the existence of circumstances justifying the dissolution of parliament. “If the Constitutional Court ascertains the existence of such circumstances, the parliament will be dissolved, and early parliamentary elections will be held in the country,” said Maia Sandu. // 29.03.2021 — InfoMarket.
