Parliament of Moldova passed in the first reading a draft law providing for the limitation of the maximum prices for petroleum products.

In particular, at a plenary meeting on Thursday, the MPs supported the Pricing Methodology for petroleum products elaborated by ANRE, taking into account the quotes of Platt's international exchanges. Parliament approved amendments to the Law on the Oil Products Market. According to the author of the legislative initiative, independent MP Alexandru Oleinic, the analysis of the situation in the domestic market, including price dynamics against the price fluctuations in international markets, as well as the behavior of oil companies, indicates the need for a radical revision of the regulatory framework in this area. The MP noted that this became even more obvious after the Parliament heard the reports of the leadership of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) and the Competition Council. Alexandru Oleinic clarified that the implementation of his proposed bill will strengthen the competitive environment, establish clear rules for the activities of participants in the oil market in the country and will not allow companies to promote their cartel interests to the detriment of citizens and the national economy. According to him, similar approaches to the formation of prices for oil products using the established upper limit formula are used in Slovenia, Slovakia, Belgium and other EU countries, as well as in Montenegro, North Macedonia - countries in the process of accession. The proposed draft law contains an appendix that sets out the formula for calculating the maximum retail prices for basic oil products in Moldova. The bill should be passed in the second reading. // 18.03.2021 - InfoMarket.
