The candidate for the post of the Prime Minister of Moldova was appointed a deputy from the PAS faction, acting Chairman of the Action and Solidarity Party Igor Grosu.
This was stated by President Maia Sandu at a briefing after the completion of consultations held on Tuesday with parliamentary groups and factions. The head of state instructed Igor Grosu to create a government team, prepare a program of its activities and submit it for consideration to parliament. The President noted that she had decided to nominate Igor Grosu as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, taking into account the statement by Mariana Durlesteanu about her refusal to be a candidate for the post of Prime Minister and taking into account the fact that currently there is no other candidate who would have the support of a formalized parliamentary majority. The head of state noted that she learned about the decision of Mariana Durlesteanu after the completion of consultations with parliamentary factions and groups. According to her, now the parliament must decide whether there will be a new government in the country or early elections will be held after the situation with the coronavirus improves. The president said early parliamentary elections could take place in the summer and are needed to get rid of not only COVID-19, but also corruption in the country. She recalled that the idea of early elections is supported by more than 70% of the country's citizens. Recall that the country's President Maia Sandu has twice nominated Natalia Gavrilita as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister. In the first case, after many hours of discussion in parliament of the program of activities and the nominal composition of the Cabinet, formed by Natalia Gavrilita, not a single deputy voted for the approval of the new government. And in the second case, the Constitutional Court, after considering the application of the Party of Socialists, recognized the decree of Maia Sandu on the reappointment of Natalia Gavrilita as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister unconstitutional, given that 54 deputies signed in support of the nomination of the candidate for the post of Prime Minister Mariana Durlesteanu. // 16.03.2021 — InfoMarket.
