Moldovan President Maia Sandu returned to parliament for revision the Law on Approval of the Strategy for Ensuring the Independence and Integrity of the Justice Sector for 2021-2024 and an Action Plan for its implementation.

The document was adopted by the parliament on November 26, 2020. Head of State Maia Sandu noted that, in her opinion, such a strategy cannot achieve the set goals without a number of key elements: introduction of a mechanism for external evaluation of judges; launching a viable reform in the anti-corruption system; ensuring effective verification of the declarations of property and interests of judges and prosecutors; development and promotion of a draft law on amendments to the Constitution in order to allow the confiscation of property, which civil servants and high-ranking officials cannot justify, etc. Maia Sandu urged parliament to include these actions in the strategy. “We will no longer allow strategies to be adopted that look good on paper but do not bring real change in justice,” she said. // 17.02.2021 — InfoMarket.
