The Chisinau Municipal Council approved the abolition of the sanitation fee in 2026
This decision was supported by 27 Council members present during the discussion of the issue at the municipal council meeting on March 23. Mayor Ion Ceban, who initiated the proposal, noted that he does not consider this the right decision, since 10 lei per month is a negligible amount that will not cause significant harm to Chisinau residents, but plays an important role in keeping the city clean. “If this fee is an obstacle to the councilors’ approval of local tax and budget proposals, then I call for its cancellation,” said Ion Ceban. As a result, the councilors approved the cancellation of the 120-leu-per-year fee, which had provided the municipal budget with 40 million lei in annual revenue. At the next City Council meeting, scheduled for March 26, the draft budget for 2026 is to be approved, taking into account the changes made to the structure of local fees. Overall, as Deputy Mayor Olesea Psenitchi noted, local tax rates, with a few exceptions, have been indexed by 4.67%, in line with the previous year’s inflation rate. Local taxes for 2026 are projected at 526.7 million lei, which is 35% higher than the previous year. // 24.03.2026 — InfoMarket.
