Moldova has completed the bilateral screening session on Chapter 16, “Taxation,” as part of the EU accession negotiation process

According to the State Tax Service, the completion of this stage marks an important step in assessing the readiness to open formal negotiations on this chapter. Discussions focused on the following key areas: review of the Moldovan tax authority; indirect taxation (value added tax); indirect taxation (excise duties); direct taxation (income tax); administrative cooperation and exchange of information; institutional capacity and digitalization of tax administration. The bilateral screening meeting on Chapter 16 “Taxation” took place in Brussels on May 15-16 and was organized by the European Commission. The meeting was held as part of Moldova's accession process to the European Union. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the State Tax Service, the Customs Service, and the Bureau for European Integration. The State Tax Service noted that harmonizing Moldova's tax system with that of the European Union involves bringing national tax legislation into line with European standards and directives.
