In 2023, the fee for sanitary cleaning in Chisinau replenished the municipal budget by 26.5 million lei; in 2024, the amount of revenue is expected to be 6% higher.

During public consultations on the city council’s draft decision on local fees for 2024, it was proposed to abolish this fee in order to reduce the burden on city residents. It was also noted that the fee is collected, but the efficiency in the field of sanitary cleaning of the city is not enough. Representatives of the mayor's office noted that this fee is provided for in the Tax Code, and many local administrations apply it, while in many localities it is much higher. According to Deputy Mayor Olga Ursu, 10 lei per month is a very small fee, incomparable with the amounts that the mayor’s office spends on cleaning the city. In addition, prices for food and tariffs for services are rising, and it is difficult for the local budget to cover all expenses. Representatives of the mayor's office also noted that for 2 years this fee could not be applied, since the necessary module of the tax information system had not been developed. Last year, the tax was applied for the first time; revenues from this tax were planned in the amount of 30 million lei, but due to the manipulation of public opinion, many residents did not pay the tax, and only 26.5 million lei were collected. They also warned that citizens who do not pay the sanitation fee for 2023 will be assessed a penalty. It is worth noting that the mayor’s office continues public consultations on the draft local fees for 2024. This document, as well as the budget of Chisinau for the current year, will be approved in the near future. // 18.01.2024 - InfoMarket.
