
Excise duties on gasoline and diesel fuel will increase 7% annually in 2024-2026, while those on liquefied gas and fuel oil will not change.
Corresponding amendments to the Tax Code were initiated by the Ministry of Finance as part of the draft fiscal and customs policy for 2024, which also proposed to approve the medium-term excise plan for oil products. According to the draft, starting January 1, 2024, the excise tax on gasoline in Moldova will be 8259.33 lei per ton versus 7719 lei per ton this year, and on diesel fuel - 3475.36 versus 3248 lei per ton. In 2025 and 2026 the excise tax on gasoline will amount to 8837.49 lei per ton and 9456.12 lei per ton, respectively; the excise tax on diesel fuel - 3718.64 and 3978.95 lei per ton. Excise taxes on liquefied gas and fuel oil were proposed to be maintained at the current level - 4144 lei per ton and 409 lei per ton, respectively: they correspond to the minimum level provided for in the European excise tax directive and are used for production purposes and not as fuel for cars. Excise duties on other categories of oil products will increase 7% annually.
