The State Tax Service has refuted information circulating online claiming that notices sent to individuals regarding the payment of the 2026 road usage fee are fake, confirming that these notices are genuine. They were generated and sent by the tax authority. The notices are addressed to vehicle owners whose vehicles passed a technical inspection between June 1 and December 31, 2025, and whose vehicles are subject to a two-year technical inspection cycle. The State Tax Service reminded taxpayers that the road usage fee must be paid annually, regardless of the frequency of vehicle inspections. As part of this initiative to ensure compliance with tax laws, 84,974 notices were sent to taxpayers via "Poșta Moldovei" (Moldova Post). The total amount of the road usage fee for 2026, as indicated in the notices sent, is 102.6 million lei. The notice also contains a QR code that allows taxpayers to access the MPay e-service to pay the fee. To simplify the payment process, the State Tax Service has prepared a short video tutorial that explains, step by step, how to verify the calculated fee amount using the "Online Car Calculator" service and how to pay the fee via MPay. The State Tax Service clarified that if the 2026 fee for the vehicle specified in the notice has already been paid, the notice may be disregarded. If the vehicle has been sold and the 2026 tax was not paid prior to the sale, the obligation to pay passes to the new owner or holder of the vehicle. For additional information, taxpayers may contact the State Tax Service's Unified Call Center at 0 8000 1525 and select option 1 (toll-free). The State Tax Service recommends that taxpayers verify information regarding their tax obligations exclusively through the agency's official services and channels. // 07.10.2026 — InfoMarket
