Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, made this statement on the eve of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting. "The enlargement process is moving forward. Plans are taking shape for four intergovernmental conferences on accession with Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova. The countries leading the accession process are demonstrating concrete progress, and we are fulfilling the commitments we have made. Progress must be accompanied by strategic convergence and respect for the principles of the rule of law. Our security depends on both of these factors," she said. Earlier, following a meeting of the College of Commissioners dedicated to pre-accession policy assessments, Marta Kos stated that Moldova, Ukraine, Montenegro, and Albania would receive "roadmaps" for EU accession on October 28. She noted that the European Commission has identified four countries leading the way in the enlargement process: Montenegro, Albania, Moldova, and Ukraine. "In recent years, these countries have made significant progress in improving their readiness. In the enlargement reports to be published on October 28, we intend to present indicative roadmaps for these countries. We want to support them in maintaining the pace of reforms, and these roadmaps will outline the next steps with indicative timelines and clear objectives," said Marta Kos. "A 'roadmap' is a strategic document and planning tool through which a candidate country makes firm, time-bound, and phased commitments aimed at implementing the reforms necessary to align with European standards. Such a document should establish clear priorities, deadlines, and specific outcomes for the implementation of reforms, as well as provide a clearer picture of the next steps. It should be noted that the European Commission has adopted a package of documents concerning the revision of policy in the context of EU enlargement. It sets out the strategic guidelines and measures necessary to prepare the Union for future enlargement. The proposed measures are aimed at preparing the Union's governance, policies, and budget for enlargement, as well as at strengthening the protection of EU values and the principle of the rule of law. // 12.10.2026 — InfoMarket
