The government approved the relevant bill to ratify the Maritime Labor Convention, which establishes international minimum standards for the working and living conditions of seafarers, at a meeting on Wednesday. The Convention regulates key aspects of seafarers’ work, including employment contracts, working hours and rest periods, living and dining conditions on board ships, medical care, social protection, and the right to repatriation. Following ratification, Moldova will apply internationally recognized requirements for the certification and monitoring of working conditions on board ships and will strengthen the fulfillment of its obligations as a flag state.
