According to him, the public’s outrage over this issue is understandable. The prime minister said that he himself is personally outraged by this situation and is therefore asking Government Secretary-General Alexei Buza to submit, by July 31, a package of proposals and concrete measures that may involve setting salary caps, the elimination of certain allowances, or other actions that will bring order to this system and give people a sense of fairness. “I think this is very important. We will not be able to carry out reforms unless we restore trust. We cannot go out to the people and tell them they need to tighten their belts while we allow abuses within the system. I think this is a very important starting point,” said Vasily Tofan. He also called for a systematic approach, which will be ensured, in part, by the adoption of a new law on wages. “We must act systematically.
