As noted in the Moldovan Railways (CFM) press release, on October 19, a shipment of scrap metal weighing a total of 1,125 metric tons was transported from Romania to Moldova via the Ungheni-Cristești Jijia border crossing. The train consisted of 26 railcars with a track gauge of 1,520 mm. Representatives of the Moldovan Railways emphasize that this shipment marks the resumption, after a hiatus of many years, of scrap metal imports by rail. Thus, the Moldovan Railways is bringing this type of cargo back to rail transport, utilizing the railway infrastructure for freight transport and diversifying international transport flows. The resumption of these shipments represents an important step in utilizing the railway's logistical potential and in strengthening CFM's role in organizing freight transportation between Moldova and Romania. // 20.10.2026 — InfoMarket
