This was stated by Carolina Novac, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, at an event dedicated to World Standards Day and organized by the Moldovan Institute of Standardization. The event focused on the role of standards in the energy transition and economic modernization. As noted, the residential sector accounts for 50% of final energy consumption in Moldova. Much of the housing stock is outdated, and heat loss in buildings directly affects household bills. Therefore, improving the energy efficiency of buildings is one of the Ministry of Energy's priorities. Carolina Novac noted that in recent years, Moldova has adopted a modern regulatory framework for building energy efficiency, which introduces minimum efficiency requirements, energy certification, and a gradual transition to nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB). At the same time, requirements for energy labeling and equipment performance are being harmonized with European standards so that consumers can choose more efficient products. "Standards help us move from intentions to measurable results. When we invest in renovating a building, installing a heating system, or modernizing a company's equipment, we must have a guarantee that the work is done properly and that the investment will effectively reduce energy consumption. Compliance with European standards means not only stricter technical requirements but also lower electricity bills, improved living conditions, and increased economic competitiveness," said Carolina Novac. According to her, the application of these standards is also supported by national energy efficiency programs, including Casa Verde and projects to renovate public and residential buildings. These programs contribute to infrastructure modernization and reduced energy consumption, as well as the development of a market for high-quality energy services. Specialists in this field—from designers and energy auditors to installers and builders—play a crucial role. Their training and the quality control of their work are essential for the proper implementation of adopted standards in practice. Energy efficiency means not only savings on utility bills but also a reduction in dependence on energy imports, an increase in the competitiveness of businesses, and the strengthening of Moldova's energy security. // 20.10.2026 — InfoMarket
