Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan made this statement during a joint press conference with his Moldovan counterpart, Vasile Tofan. He noted that he had discussed with the Moldovan Prime Minister the progress of joint strategic projects, paying particular attention to projects aimed at strengthening ties in the transportation and energy sectors. Representatives of the Moldovan and Romanian Ministries of Energy are coordinating their efforts to find the best solutions to overcome the difficulties caused by the current security situation, taking into account the crisis in both the electricity and fuel sectors. The Prime Ministers of the two countries discussed the construction of two new 400-kV power lines: Suceava–Bălți and Gutinaș–Strășeni. In the spring, the Romanian government approved a decision to designate the Suceava–Bălți section of the 400-kV power line on Romanian territory as a project of national importance. In the area of infrastructure, work began last year on the construction of a bridge across the Prut River in Ungheni—the first road bridge meeting European standards that will connect Moldova to the European road network via Romania. Construction of the bridge will be completed by the end of this year. Ilie Bolojan noted that Romania has received funding under the SAFE program to connect this bridge to its A8 highway, and the project will also include infrastructure work in Moldova, including the first section of a highway that meets European standards. He also highlighted progress on projects related to rail transport. For example, in April of this year, tests were conducted on the Fălciu–Cantemir section, where rail traffic had been completely halted 17 years ago. “By reopening this connection, Romania and Moldova are restoring an important cross-border railway crossing,” stated Ilie Bolojan.
